“I’m Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs“ is a catch phrase for the ages. Created in the 60’s, Sonny the Cuckoo Bird was fresh and original. But by the turn of the century he became a very generic character on a skateboard. We brought him back to his roots, creating many beautifully animated shorts that pushed the boundaries of “Cuckoo” by putting Sonny in many perilous situations involving his favorite food, Cocoa Puffs. We brought back his main antagonist, Gramps, gave him a variety show website The Cuckoo Show (way before Captain Crunch did something similar) and populated his world with birds that could react to Sonny’s predicament. Music became an integral storytelling device, composed by our Grammy-winning partners at Endless Noise. Orchestral scores inspired by classic horror films heightened the tension while an opera spot dramatized Sonny’s agony and ecstasy over Cocoa Puffs.
